Scenario 1:
Use of Electronic Data Mart results in end user
productivity gains.
Overview
Client interest in the Electronic Data
Mart Product
was generated due to the following:
-
Current reports do
not provide some of the information
needed by end users.
- End users are
keying data from reports into spreadsheets in order to produce
customized information.
-
Available
report customization tool kit is cumbersome
and requires programming expertise.
-
Programming resources are busy with
other higher priority work
.
The client
is frustrated by the amount of time being spent by end
user resources in
generation of spreadsheets and customized reports.
The client decides to add the BCS Electronic
Data Mart Product to their tool kit. Data
from existing legacy databases is ported to the BCS server via
standard FTP mechanics, allowing users to access this information through query tools via
their desktop browsers. The client has not needed to acquire any
hardware or software in order to implement the product. No desktops
were upgraded or modified, no software was installed at the client
locations.
Benefits
Realized
The client realizes immediate and substantial
cost
savings and productivity gains. The client reports the following to be
significant unexpected benefits:
-
Query results are available at any location. A user can
call up the results of a query wherever they are
(including at home).
-
Query results can
be downloaded directly to the users desktop as a spreadsheet, thereby eliminating
manual keying in of this data from
reports.
-
Queries can be saved and
shared, reducing rework.
- Implementation
of the product caused users to begin thinking about what else they
could do to improve their workflow, lower costs and increase
productivity.
